The 8 of us will get on a plane very soon and fly to Guatemala. Once in country, we will build a home, distribute 50 + wheelchairs, install many stoves, distribute food and clothes and find many other unexpected needs. We will look in people's eyes and see pain. We will talk to families who struggle in unimaginable ways. However, we are always so blessed when we experience the EXTREME faith in those we SERVE! They truly have little in the way of physical supplies. But, they all have the Lord!
While we will physically travel, we are also blessed to carry with us wonderful blessings from friends here in the states!
Many have provided monetary donations. Whether small or large, they all are appreciated. They all have added up to help us reach our goal to be able to complete our intended projects!
Others have unique gifts in making handmade items for us to distribute. A few years ago, a dear woman in Iowa made 300+ crocheted crosses.
This year, several friends have been lovingly handcrafting wonderful , WARM knit hats!! Now, you might think "Guatemala, near the equator....its gonna be hot!" Near the coast, yes. However, Tecpan sits in the mountains at around 6,500 feet elevation. Winter in Tecpan is windy. The nights can dip in tho the 40's and even 30's! The village where we will be helping and building the home, is nestled much higher in the mountains. Probably around 7,500 ft. I guarantee the nights are COLD there! Add the fact that the homes will have NO insulation, or heat, and there are usually huge gaps in the walls! The blankets we will distribute and hats will be a HUGE blessing! Last year we took many of these hats, everyone LOVED them!
Another friend has made over 75 dresses from t-shirts and fabric! These will be a huge hit!
Another buddy of mine from my Thursday Men's Bible Study has given 10 beautiful stained glass crosses that he and his father-in-law made.
Over the years they have given out around 5,000 of these. They also know these crosses are in 13 countries....soon to be 14!
Ephesians 2:8-9 are always a go-to scripture for so many. Great verses!
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God"
Verse 10 is often overlooked...
"For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Many thanks to everyone for their donations, whether monetary or crafts! They will bless many!
Dios Te Bendiga, Ricardo
