As we prepare for the trip to Guatemala, I was struck by the congregational prayer during our Christmas Eve service. The congregational response to the Pastors prayer regarding the Babe in the manger was:
Before such mystery we kneel, as we follow the shepherds and wise men to bring you the gift of our love – a love that we confess is not always as warm or sincere or real as it should be. On this Christmas Eve, we pray that our love would find its beloved, and from you, receive the grace to make it pure again, warm and real. We bring you our gratitude for every token of your love, so graciously given.
Help us to extend that love to the needy, the poor and helpless, the cold, the hungry, the oppressed, the sick and those that mourn, the lonely and unloved, the aged and the little children, people who don’t know the Lord Jesus, or who by sin have grieved His heart of Love. Amen.
What a great prayer to meditate on as we prepare for our visit to Guatemala.
